Many times, I’m asked by civilians what they can do to help our troops. There are, of course, many ways one can go about helping our troops. One of the great ways you can help is by donating to Soldiers’ Angels. Starting today a Joint Services Operation is kicking off in support of Valour-IT.
What is Project Valour-IT?
Every cent raised for Project Valour-IT goes directly to the purchase and shipment of voice activated laptops and other technology for severely wounded service members. As of November, 2008, Valour-IT has distributed over 2700 laptops to severely wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines across the country, and is now expanding its mission to include other technology (to include Wii Video Game Systems and Personal Handheld GPS devices).
Major Chuck Ziegenfuss, whom I met in Vegas last week, received one of the laptops when he was seriously injured in Iraq (2005). Chuck is one of the most positive and happy people I’ve met in a long while. When he received his laptop he said, “It was the first time I felt whole since I’d woken up wounded in Landstuhl.” Chuck is a salty milblogger who used his laptop to keep up on his blog while he recovered from his injuries. He’s an amazing individual.
To think… that a few dollars donated by you could supply another wounded warrior with a means of communication to his family and friends while he recovers… now that’s something everyone should be proud to do. There are no minimum donations. As Chuck has said several times over the weekend, if every American donated 4/10 of a penny, we’d have a million dollars.
